Spanish designer Amaya Arzuaga..PLEATS

Spanish fashion designer Amaya Arzuaga is inspired by the notion of metamorphosis for her Spring 2010 collection. Each dress connotes the transformation of a chrysalis to a butterfly, and the collection is rife with dramatic origamic folds and pleated tulle shaped into fans and spirals. Amaya also toys with opacity and translucency to suggest skin vs. motion, cocoons vs. butterfly wings.

Dutch Pleating / Double Pinch Pleat

Similar to the French style but with double pleats, this treatment has the benefits of French pleating but creates a style which balances casual with traditional.

New York Pleating / Inverted Pleat

This style, also known as inverted pleating, creates a simple, modern look which also requires less fabric than some other styles.

Plain fabrics or those with textured weaves are complemented best by this treatment.

Pleatsss.......

The hand made pleats are made by using a mold (also called frame or form), of which there are two layers, inside and outside. You lay the fabric in between the scored and folded oak tag, roll it up and steam it in an oven. On some fabrics, chemicals are used to enhance the effects.
Pleating molds are expensive and time consuming to make and one tiny mistake in one fold ruins the whole thing and you have to start over
